Audio assessment evaluation

When it came to think about ideas for my project I found it hard to think of idea I though where news working. I had initially though of doing a Kony related project but felt that too many people had already used that as a theme for many other projects.

When I did come up with my idea for a fashion intern interview I had to go through friends to find people that had done one. I managed to find two people both of them lived far so I had to conduct phone interviews. The process of the phone interview was the most stressful in terms of getting good audio that I could use because their voices where coming out lower on the phone. I then though of amplifying their voice in the editing process. The interview with the BBC runner was better in terms of audio quality. I has used the zoom kits which I had not done before. They were easy to use and operate so it was not hard getting used to using them. I only had to get used to how far the zoom kit had to be between me and the person I was interviewing to get the right levels of volume.  I was lucky with both interviews when it came scheduling them I did not have to wait long to record them.

When it came to the editing process I found the interview the easiest to edit although I had not used Audacity before it was not hard to use because the function were simple.  Also the interview I had a lot of content and most of the problem was cutting it down because most of it was very useful and funny information. The podcast however was the hardest to edit. Not all the audio was clear enough or interesting to use.

I have learned from this assessment that a lot goes into making interviews and podcasts and its not just about the initial recording that you have to edit the material to get the best out of it. There is also a lot of planning that goes into it and you have manage your time so you can get work done on time. I’ve also learnt that you need to have good questions to interesting information that you need because they are responding to your questions. The better the question the better the answers you get.

Fashion Interns

With the holidays for University students coming up and people finally able to have time for themselves and also do a bit of work and  get an internship  I talked to fashion interns about their experiences. With how competitive the fashion industry is I wanted to know what it takes to get an internship, also what they got from the whole experience. It about what to expect when approaching internships especially ones in a competitive environment. I talked Emily Wakerley who has previously done a fashion course and is now working on her own label that targets students. I also talked to Charlotte Burke who attends Middlesex University and does  Fashion Design, Styling and Promotion.

An interview with a freelance runner

I interview James Smith who has been working as Runner for the past two years. He has mainly been working for the BBC, working on programs such as Strictly Come Dancing. He talks about how he got his job and where he wants to end up in the future. He also shares some of the interesting things that have happened while he has been working as a runner. With many people wanting to get work in the television industry I wanted to talk to someone who just at the beginning of their career about their experience. He talked about how he became a freelance runner and give a glimpse into what it takes to make it as a runner.

Audio Assessment

When it came to thinking about ideas for the audio assessment I wanted to do something fashion related. I found a girl through a friend who was doing a fashion intern and though it would great to interview  her about internship. I was going to use her for my two minute interview but then I found another girl who had previously done and internship and was now working on an a fashion line. I then though of turning it to a podcast to make it more lively and interesting. it was also due to the amount of recording I got it meant that I could make it a larger piece.

For my interview I found a freelance runner who has mainly worked for the BBC and wanted to inteview him about his experiences as a runner and to see if he would have interesting stories. The interview was straight forward and made more sense for it to be an interview instead of a podcast.

When it came to the audio assessment I managed to get two phone interviews but the audio was very low. I then had re record them but the audio was only slightly better. I amplified the audio to make it better and to try and get the same level of volume.

When it came to the interview I decided during the editing that the story sounded better without without the questions from me and it meant that i could fit a lot more of his stories in to the interviews without running out of time.

Video Assessment Evaluation

When it came to the video assessment I wanted to make a fashion based video but did not have an angle on. I had though of interviewing a fashion student .  Fashion Weekend was on at the same time I thought this would be a good opportunity to get the footage from there. I went with an idea in mind and questions to ask but changed my idea slightly because of the responses I was getting and though that the new approach was much more interesting because it was what people where talking about. I then went back and planned my video around the new information I had gained. I then went back to Fashion Weekend and filmed more footage with my news questions at hand I thought talking to various people including the workers and the models would make for a better piece because I was getting a wide variety of information making my piece more news worthy. people at Fashion Week were easy to talk to so I did not find it hard to find people to interview I think this was due to  people expected to be approached because of how many bloggers and  and other people taking pictures and filming. Also there plenty of people there to talk about fashion.

When it came to editing the piece I did not need any secondary footage because I had a lot of video footage i had shot myself because I had attended more than one day of Fashion week. This meant I had a lot more people to talk to and different footage to film. I had not used final cut pro before but had previously other video editing software and this meant I was able to adjust very quickly to the software. The only problem I faced was editing the audio. I sound it hard working with editing levels of audio and cutting the audio as well but once I was able to do it the rest of the editing went smoothly.

Th video assessment was an fun experience to do because it showed me how to conduct filming a short documentary. I also learnt that is a lot of planning that goes into projects and getting  the most footage you can helps when it comes editing because you have a lot of material to use. It means that you are more likely to get interesting footage and this will make you video better. I learned that going out and finding out what people are talking about will help in creating better content because you are making something that people are interested in.

Stella McCartney has finally reviled the long anticipated collection for Adidas 2012 Olympic kit

She already designs a sports collection for Adidas but was chosen to design the official olympic outfits two years ago. She told vogue that  she “felt quite emotional watching it. I’ve been working on this for two years now. I felt so proud of the athletes more than anything and it really felt as if, ‘woah, this is actually happening now’. It’s really exciting and the whole thing is happening in our city!”

she collection was worn modelled by 30 athletes including tennis player Andy Murray.

Video Assessment Documating

For the video assessment I wanted to do a a fashion themed video I had first come up with the idea about the growing trend to won the latest things. I wasn’t too sure how to approach it or who I was going to talk to for it. The project came around the same time as fashion week. I thought it would be good to talk to people that where there because of what the subject was. I talked to bloggers, workers and the visitors. After that I wanted footage of the place that would show the event and accompany my audio.

After filming my footage at Fashion Week and Fashion Weekend. I had filmed footage at university. When I started editing and the voice over and footage together I realised that the footage I had filmed at University was not going to work because it did not match well with the fashion footage. I decided to cut that out and add more voice overs to bring everything together. I used the audio that I had got from filming the catwalk show for the rest of the piece.

Some of the interviews with people did not come out as good as I had hope because of the audio and I had to remove them or edit the audio. The ones I edited the audio I had to make them louder. Also  Some of the footage as well was shaky and i had to find suitable footage to use that was stable.

This was the first time I had worked on final cut pro and found edting the audio the hardest part because i had to work with levels but after i had figured  out how to do it the rest of the process became a lot easier.

Fashion Weekend

A mild sunny Saturday a perfect day to spend at Fashion Weekend checking out the latest trends at Summerset House. The day starts of slowly with a few people walking around checking out the scene.  Me and Kirsty first head inside to check the colossal designer  sale with Vivian Westwood selling at half price for a one time only offer that Fashion Weekend brings. After two hours Kirsty falls in love with a aquabyaqua dress, contemplates buying but walks away with a slight unsure expression as to whether she can live without the dress as we walk around she decides her dress will be better of in her wardrobe and buys despite her financial instincts telling her otherwise. We herd to the catwalk shows, which showcases this seasons latest trends which include florals and pastels and an inspired collection by the up coming.  The show is amazing especially for a first time experience its at this moment that i know that i will return to fashion weekend in the future.

Back outside there are lot more people now as morning turns into day. There are no queues to get into the cat walk show and part of me is happy that we avoided this by attending the earlier shows. People heer are well dressed and you can tell this a crowds that demands attention through their outfit choices from bright pink heels that you can spot a mile away, to pastel coloured dresses that are right on trend.

Fashion Weekend is also a place that makes you feel like your famous with bloggers and photographers wanting to take you picture left right and centre.  Its also much more friendly here people are easy to talk to and let you take their picture after all they are hear to show what they are made of when it comes to style.

After a few hours roaming around and checking out peoples outfit choices we decide its time for our fashion week experience to end. But overall its been a good day!
